ABOUT US

The General Information Authority (GIA) was established under name of “The National Information and Documentation Authority”, under decision No. (149), 1993, by the formerly General People’s Committee; and its name has been changed to the General Information Authority in 2006, by decision No. (282), in reorganizing the General Information Authority. According to decision No. (91), of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord, the Authority has been reorganized in a way that reflects its strategic objectives, and qualifies it to keep pace with internal and external developments and changes.

Under this decision, the GIA has been assigned new tasks, concerned with implementing provisions of laws related to the nature and area of its work; the development of national plans and policies, and following-up on its implementation.

The Authority is a juridical person, and has independent financial liability; and it is a governmental body affiliated with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. In performing its tasks and achieving its goals, it relies on national elements specialized in its fields of work, which comes within a positive work environment with high productivity.

The GIA is concerned with the tasks of organizing and managing the national information sector and implementing the provisions of Law No. (4) 1990, regarding the “National Information and Documentation System” and Law No. (8) of 2014, regarding “the National Number,” and other laws related to areas of the Authority’s work.
