At the invitation of the Minister of Social Affairs, Mrs. Wafaa Al-Kilani, the General Authority for Information participated in the Family and Digitalization Forum held in the capital, Tripoli, with the participation of Arab delegations and a number of international and regional organizations. The authority was represented in its participation by (Eng. Rabeea Al-Qaedi – Eng. Atiqa Madi – Eng. Aya Al-Qarmali – Ms. Naglaa Abu Bakr). Engineer Rabeea gave a comprehensive presentation titled ‘The Libyan Family in the Era of Digitalization: Between Challenges and Opportunities,’ in which she addressed the most prominent transformations brought about by technology in the structure of the Libyan family and the accompanying social and cultural effects. She also reviewed the indicators of internet and social media usage in Libya, noting that more than 88% of the population uses the internet, 85% use social media, with more than 12 million active mobile subscriptions.
The presentation addressed the digital challenges facing families, such as low digital awareness, the increasing generation gap, the risks of digital addiction, and the impact of foreign content on values and national identity. It also highlighted the positive opportunities provided by digitalization in empowering women, supporting education and remote work, enhancing family communication, and improving social services. Engineer Rabi’a emphasized the role of the General Information Authority as a national center of expertise in digital safety awareness programs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and relevant national bodies, within the framework of the National Digital Transformation Strategy 2023–2030.At the conclusion of the presentation, the Authority provided a set of recommendations, the most prominent of which included:- Launching a national program for family digital literacy,- Integrating digital safety concepts into school curricula,- Establishing a national observatory for the Libyan digital family,- Implementing awareness campaigns under the slogan ‘My Family with Digital Safety’.This participation comes within the framework of the General Information Authority’s commitment to supporting national efforts to promote digital culture and protect Libyan families in the digital age, and to build an aware society capable of leveraging technology to serve sustainable social development.
