Today, Monday, the General Information Authority received a high-level delegation from the African Union and its development agency (NEPAD), along with the African Union Commission, in a strategic meeting dedicated to reviewing Libya’s digital transformation indicators as part of the implementation of the continental Agenda 2063.
The meeting was chaired by Engineer Abdul Baset Salem Al-Baour, Chairman of the Authority, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Al-Fadel Jibran, Chairman of the Permanent Committee for the Implementation and Follow-up of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, Mr. Abdel Nasser Younis, Director of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and directors of departments and offices at the General Information Authority.
During the meeting, the Chairman reviewed national strategies in the fields of digital transformation, communications, and artificial intelligence, emphasizing that Libya has made qualitative leaps in digital and developmental indicators in recent years, enabling it to advance to leading positions at the African level..
For his part, the head of the NEPAD delegation, Mr. Mohamed Abdelsalam, and representatives of the African Union Commission praised the significant progress Libya has made, emphasizing that Libya’s results have exceeded continental expectations, and that national initiatives are fully aligned with the continental vision of building “The Africa We Want.”
The preparation of the National 2063 Report, scheduled to be presented at the upcoming African Summit, was also discussed, alongside a discussion of the readiness report for the second decade of implementing Agenda 2063, reflecting Libya’s commitment to supporting the continental development planning process and following up on the strategic goals for the next phase.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continuing cooperation between Libya, the African Union Commission, and NEPAD to achieve digital integration and sustainable development across the continent.
