Within the framework of the strategic partnership to support sustainable development, the General Information Authority, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, organized this morning, Monday, a high-level celebration at Bab Al-Bahr Hotel in the capital, Tripoli. The aim of the celebration was to announce two key events: the release of the 2025 International Human Development Report and the presentation of the integrated framework for the seventh national Human Development Report in Libya.
The celebration opened with a speech by the Chairman of the General Information Authority, Engineer Abdul Basit Salem Al-Baour, in which he emphasized the vital role of accurate and reliable data in supporting effective decision-making and shaping development policies. He explained that the simultaneous preparation of the national report alongside the Authority’s artificial intelligence strategy underscores Libya’s commitment to adopting modern tools to enhance its analytical and planning capabilities, ensuring the provision of an informed developmental perspective on the Libyan reality.
In her role, the actress serving as the resident representative for the United Nations Development Programme, Dr. Sophie Kimkhedze, delivered a speech in which she emphasized the importance of a strong partnership with the General Information Authority, considering it a model of technical cooperation to support sustainable development. She pointed to the urgent need to enhance comprehensive and resilient development, highlighting some of the key preliminary indicators included in the 2025 International Report.
Following the opening remarks, two separate detailed presentations reviewed the main themes of the celebration. Dr. Osama Al-Matari, an expert with the United Nations Development Programme, delivered a presentation outlining the main axes and findings of the 2025 International Human Development Report. In turn, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hamali, head of the research team for the Seventh National Development Report, presented his findings.
Humanity, an event that presented the comprehensive framework and methodology to be adopted in preparing the upcoming national report.
The celebration witnessed a strong and high-level attendance of leading figures, which underscored the national and international significance of this issue. Among the prominent attendees were deputy ministers of education, social affairs, economy, and planning, the head of the Statistics and Census Department, the ambassadors of the United Kingdom and Korea to Libya, heads of several government institutions, representatives from governmental bodies, prominent development experts, civil society organizations, and representatives of international organizations operating in Libya.
This high-level presence highlighted the importance that the country places on the human development agenda and the efforts being made to collect reliable and high-quality data.
