– Engineer Abdul Basit Salem Al-Baour, head of the General Authority for Information, confirmed that open government data availability represents a fundamental pillar in the national digital transformation path and a strategic tool to enhance transparency, improve planning, and decision-making. He pointed out that the state possesses an important stock of official data that must be shared in an organized and secure manner with the public. This came during the expanded meeting he held with the Open Government Data Platform work team, attended by managers of relevant departments and offices, where the readiness of the national open data platform was reviewed, and the action plan to launch it before the end of the current year was discussed. The meeting also included a detailed presentation of the Libyan open data policy proposal, along with the platform usage policy, which defines the general regulations for data reuse, and the rights and obligations of the beneficiaries, ensuring a balance between openness and the protection of privacy and sensitive data.
The head of the authority clarified that the platform aims to provide official data about government sectors, enhancing the empowerment of researchers, developers, institutions, and civil society to use this data in building technological and cognitive solutions that support national development. He pointed out that work is underway according to the highest international technical and regulatory standards, affirming that the authority is committed to providing a pioneering national model in managing and publishing open data, which enhances Libya’s position in transparency and digital transformation.
