In a strategic move to enhance digital transformation in Libya, the headquarters of the General Information Authority hosted a broad technical and consultative meeting this morning, dedicated to reviewing and discussing the proposal for the (National Cloud Computing Policy). The meeting was attended at a high level by the Authority’s experts and representatives from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), alongside a distinguished group of specialists representing several ministries, governmental bodies, and institutions, as well as representatives from the private and civil sectors, reflecting comprehensive national interest in this vital issue. This policy aims to establish a unified national framework for hosting government data and services, as part of the Authority’s efforts to develop digital infrastructure and ensure the security and integrity of national data according to internationally recognized standards.
The meeting included a detailed presentation on cloud computing policy, focusing on how to adapt technological solutions to meet the specific needs of Libyan institutions, and highlighting the role of ESCWA as a consulting partner to ensure the adoption of global best practices in this area.
Participants also discussed ways to enhance integration between the public and private sectors to ensure the comprehensiveness and practical implementability of the policy, emphasizing the principle of the state’s full sovereignty over its data and providing a secure digital environment that supports electronic services, helps reduce operational costs, and improves government performance efficiency.
At the conclusion of the meeting, attendees agreed to continue close coordination between the technical teams of the authority and ESCWA, adopting a mechanism to incorporate valuable technical feedback provided by experts, paving the way for the development of the final version of the policy in a manner that meets Libya’s aspirations for building a safe and sustainable digital future.
This step comes as part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to build an advanced digital infrastructure that ensures the security and safety of national information in accordance with the highest international standards.
