Yesterday, Wednesday, the State of Libya officially assumed the presidency of the Committee on Technology for Development from the State of Palestine. The committee operates under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The handover took place during the opening session of the committee’s sixth-session meetings, attended by His Excellency Mr. Sofiane Hemissi, Minister of Communication Technologies of the Tunisian Republic, alongside several Arab ambassadors.

Libya’s assumption of this presidency marks a pivotal milestone, reinforcing its presence and role in international decision-making within the fields of technology and digital transformation, particularly given that the committee operates within the United Nations system.

In his speech, Engineer Hossam Al-Rabiti conveyed the greetings of Engineer Abdulbasit Al-Baoor, Head of the General Information Authority, to the participants. He noted that Libya takes pride in this trust, emphasizing that this step builds upon a four-year constructive partnership with ESCWA, during which Libya actively participated in the committee’s work and initiatives.

Al-Rabiti explained that during its presidency, Libya will work to implement the adopted strategy and action plan while building upon achievements from previous sessions. He added that efforts will focus on fostering regional cooperation in digital governance and artificial intelligence, and leveraging technology to advance sustainable development across the Arab region.

He concluded his address by expressing sincere gratitude and appreciation to the State of Palestine for its outstanding efforts during its presidency of the committee, and to the Tunisian Republic for its gracious hospitality and warm reception.
