The General Information Authority, in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), organized an awareness and dialogue session to celebrate Global Media and Information Literacy Week. The event was held as part of the activities of the Libyan National Committee for the Information for All Programme (IFAP) and in alignment with the programme’s second priority focused on Information Literacy.
The session was attended by the Chairman of the Authority, Eng. Abdul Basit Salem Al-Baour; Dr. Abdul Raouf Al-Bibas, Technical Advisor to the Committee; Eng. Mounir Al-Adl, Director of the Planning and Projects Department and Rapporteur of the Committee; alongside a number of the Authority’s leaders and employees.
The session addressed the importance of verifying information credibility and promoting the safe and responsible use of the internet and artificial intelligence applications. The Committee also reviewed its key awareness-raising publications, including documents, brochures, and information platforms. Furthermore, it highlighted the experience of the Information Awareness Project implemented in 2015 in partnership with the General Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Movement and the Ministry of Education, pointing toward the launch of the proposed “Aware Scout” project. This initiative aims to prepare a training kit and qualify scout leaders to spread information awareness among movement members and school students, while working to include the “Aware Scout Badge” among officially recognized scouting badges.
This activity aligns with the Authority’s strategic direction and institutional values—particularly social responsibility, digital citizenship, and digital sovereignty—and serves to strengthen national and international partnerships toward building an information-aware society.
We invite you to engage with this initiative, contribute to spreading media and information awareness, and share your thoughts and suggestions on promoting the safe and responsible use of information and the internet. Together with your participation, we build a more conscious digital society.
