The President of the University of Derna, Professor Dr. Nasr Mohammed Al-Mansouri, received yesterday morning, Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the university’s general administration headquarters, the delegation of the General Information Authority (GIA). The delegation was accompanied by the Editor-in-Chief of the Seventh National Human Development Report, the head of the research team, representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and several independent experts participating in the report’s preparation. During the meeting, Al-Mansouri emphasized the pivotal role played by the university as a center of intellectual enlightenment and a fundamental supporter of major development projects that directly impact the lives of citizens.

This significant meeting took place on the sidelines of the community consultation session hosted by the university on Tuesday to review the preliminary results of the report. Extensive discussions were held regarding the scientific and methodological visions adopted, emphasizing the importance of the existing partnership between the GIA, the UN program, and Libyan universities to ensure the neutrality and accuracy of development indicators. Attendees also discussed ways to invest the outcomes of these consultations into enhancing the quality of data specific to the city of Derna and its surrounding areas to serve the goals of comprehensive sustainable development.

In a prominent strategic highlight, both sides discussed ways to enhance and develop prospects for joint cooperation between the General Information Authority and the University of Derna. Discussions focused on establishing permanent working rules, including the exchange of technical expertise, supporting research centers with accurate data, and training university cadres in technical skills and statistical analysis. This aims to transform the university into a primary informational partner that feeds national development plans with scientific studies.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the visiting delegation expressed its deep appreciation to the University of Derna for its outstanding coordination and research role in the success of the community consultation phase. They emphasized that this close integration between the University, the GIA, the Steering Committee, and international partners represents the true guarantee for issuing a robust national report that realistically and professionally reflects the developmental challenges and opportunities in Libya.
